Soft Shadow
Critique
1. Strength: Spread out hair leads eye to the subject's face.
2. Problem/Solution: The image as a whole is too dark. Add a source of light to either side of subject's face.
3. Problem/Solution: Colors are too saturated. Change lighting mode and add cool light to reduce warm colors.
4. Problem/Solution: Light reflecting on her glasses is distracting. Ask model to tilt her glasses down or remove them.
5. Strength: Lighting allows for soft shadows.
Little or No Light
Critique
1. Strength: Warm colors throughout image allows the blue of the subject's eyes to pop.
2. Problem/Solution: The photographer is visible in the eyes of the subject. Photographer should step backwards until the form is unrecognizable.
3. Problem/Solution: Eyes or face could be more in focus. Either increase shutter speed or stay still before shooting.
4. Problem/Solution: Subject's face is more red than the rest of her skin. Change lighting to change saturation of red color.
5. Strength: The wide aperture used for the image is very effective.
Strong Shadow
Critique
1. Strength: The lighting from the window creates good highlights and shadows.
2. Problem/Solution: Main point of focus should fill the frame. Zoom into the face of the subject.
3. Problem/Solution: The tone of the image feels sullen, but the subject looks happy. For continuity, ask model to rest her face.
4. Problem/Solution: Subject is too dark. Use reflector like a poster board for light to bounce onto then onto the subject.
5. Strength: The background pattern effectively leads eye to subject.
Cast Shadow Shadow
Critique
1. Strength: Fun use of environment to create shadow.
2. Problem/Solution: Background of subject has a lot of distracting elements. Pose model in front of less busy background.
3. Problem/Solution: Background creates a tangent with subject's head. Angle camera lower or higher to avoid this.
4. Problem/Solution: Having trouble distinguishing the subject as the main point of interest. Give her bright colors to wear or a more off balanced pose.
5. Strength: Angle of light post and its shadow, allows eye to move diagonally up and down the image.
Background Light
Critique
1. Strength: A strong image for advertising converse.
2. Problem/Solution: The subject is not very interesting. Provide more visual information to create a story.
3. Problem/Solution: Subject in focus does not follow the rule of thirds. Slightly move emblem to the right.
4. Problem/Solution: Make emblem more legible, by maybe allowing golden light to hit it.
5. Strength: Focus is on the All Star emblem and light leads eye close to that area.
